The Foundation and the City Council Committee have had several meetings recently. Lots of good ideas were shared, and there is strong interest in moving forward. Under council direction, library staff evaluated minimum square footage for a new building and recommended that a building in the 30,000 square foot range would serve many of the goals. The most viable location is re-building on the current site.
We believe strongly that a good library is an essential public service. In 2014 SHKS Consultants completed a Needs Assessment Study. The final report is available here. (Note this is a large file and takes a while to open.) City of Mount Vernon is currently gathering input for their comprehensive plan. We encourage you to add comments about a new library in the Survey.
